Dry Skin Care Toner: Your Product Guide To Better Skin Care
Dry Skin Care Toner
Do you know which dry skin care toner is best for you? Very often, the last step in the cleansing process is also the most forgotten and the least understood: toning.
Understanding Skin Toning
Skin care toners complete the cleansing process. After having cleansed, use a toner (with cleansing milk) to help wipe away any lasting remnants of dirt and oil.
Removal of dead skin cells and impurities will allow enhanced penetration of the moisturizers.
Dry skin care toner have many benefits, including:
Freshens and tones up the skin
Skin Care Regiment
Restores the skin's acid/ alkali or pH balance
Tightens and closes pores
Hydrates the skin; and,
Stimulates circulation
Technically, toners re-acidify the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and prepare the skin for moisturizer. To re-acidify means to replace the skin's naturally low (acidic) pH state, which is somewhat disrupted even with gentle cleansers.
Toners and Dry Skin Care
Commercial toners are generally alcohol-based and wreak havoc on dry skin. In fact, some 95% of all commercial toners contain drying alcohol. (Many even contain acetone, the chemical that removes nail polish.)
Alcohol dries out the surface of the skin by removing water and stripping all of the natural oils from the surface of the skin.
For this reason, never use a toner or exfoliating scrub without a moisturizer - toning alone could worsen dryness in dry skin types.
The skin's natural defense mechanism/ response to surface stripping and over-drying is an overproduction of sebum oils in an effort to re-balance this radical loss of contents. This in turn can cause breakouts and may result in acne-prone skin - you'd be trading one skin problem for another.
Because they contain more water than their cousin, astringents, toners are actually better for dry skin.
However, if your skin is extremely dry and shows tendencies for other more severe skin problems, toning could pose a threat. In this case, you may want to skip toning altogether, or at least, until such time as your skin has improved and you feel t’s safe to return it to your dry skin care program.
When looking for best facial toner for dry skin, choose a mild, alcohol-free, hydrated toner, specifically formulated for dry skin. The dry skin toner should combine natural ingredients and herbal extracts to calm and soothe dry skin, as harsh chemicals will only irritate dry skin even more.
Witch Hazel Extract tones and invigorates, while moisturizing ingredients, such as Chamomile, Cucumber and Rose Oil (or Rosewater) provide superior soothing, hydrating and calming abilities much needed by dry skin. AHA's (alpha hydroxyl acids) are sometimes added for more exfoliation.
Such best natural skin toners for dry skin will balance your skin, leaving it with a tingly, refreshing feeling, while tightening the skin's elasticity to promote a more youthful appearance.
